Marine Queensland is proud to announce a new event on the boat show calendar - the Mackay Marine Festival incorporating the Mackay Tinnie and Tackle Show and Mackay Offshore Superboat Championships, June 25th and 26th 2011. “This is an exciting addition to the association’s event portfolio” said Marine Queensland Events Manager Jason Plant, “It is a great opportunity to highlight just how popular boating in the region is and to support our members in the area”. The Mackay region boasts one of the state’s highest per capita boat ownership ratios with one boat registered for every 8 residents. “By putting on a festival that is solely dedicated to the on water lifestyle we aim to bring to the region the new product releases and the fishing talks and demonstrations that have been enjoyed by visitors to the southern based shows for years” said Plant. Mackay Marina has been confirmed as the venue for the first Mackay Marine Festival. Voted as one of Australia’s top ten Marina and Shipyards, Mackay Marina will present the perfect backdrop for this year’s event. “Mackay Marina has been extremely supportive in helping us put together this event” said Plant, “The facilities available allow us to incorporate trailer boats displays with on water displays and demonstrations.” “The Fishing Expo Stage will also travel to Mackay and there will be heaps of activities to keep the kids entertained”. Visitors to the Mackay Marine Festival will also be able to experience the excitement of the Mackay Offshore Superboat Championships. Teams will race with speeds up to 270kph in round 2 of a tournament that travels around the country. The rock wall along the Marina provides one of the best viewing platforms in Australia to see these big boats fly. The Mackay Marine Festival is supported by Mackay Marina (Port Binnli), DEEDI Mackay and Mackay Tourism.
