Marine Queensland Welcomes Coalition’s Marine Protected Areas Policy

Peak State recreational marine industry body, Marine Queensland has welcomed the Coalition Policy announcement on marine protected areas.

Marine Queensland CEO Don Jones today said, “The Coalition policy announcement on marine protected areas is welcomed.  It will get an essential environmental initiative back on track.”

The national Bioregional Planning process was commenced by the previous Howard Government with the full support of the marine industry.  The original intent of the process was to enable government to be better informed of the commonwealth waters so that it could make informed decisions on the many demands on these waters while at the same time ensuring that sensitive marine environments were appropriately protected.

“Unfortunately the process under the Rudd/Gilliard Government has now reverted to one of establishing quotas of marine protection areas and exclusion zones” said Jones.  “In addition to this, the Government’s policy on displaced activity is also under review with all of the indications being a fundamental change for the worse by impacted businesses and communities”.

“The four key planks announced by the Coalition will reinstate a balanced and sensible approach to establishing truly meaningful environmental protection measures while at the same time minimizing economic and social impact to the industries and communities that rely on access to these waters” said Jones.

Transport and Main Roads is undertaking a state-wide Recreational Boating Facilities Demand Forecasting Study during 2010.  The study will involve extensive consultation, data collection, demographic trend analysis, needs analysis, and demand forecasting for the future. In assessing future demand, consideration will be given to facility location, environmental constraints and opportunities, seasonal and holiday demand fluctuations, and the nature of recreational boating in the area.

This is an amazing opportunity to voice your issues and requests for a better ramp facilities in your area.

The outcomes of the study will provide a solid basis to guide investment of funding in boating infrastructure from 2012-13 onwards.

John Crawford Marine regularly uses the local ramps in the Wynnum and Brisbane River area and we will be submitting our issues with ramps and carparks. Some our concerns are carpark lighting for security, lack of fish cleaning tables and bins, pontoons needed that run the centre of the ramp for both lanes to use in windy conditions or strong currents, adequate advertising signage for marine safety alerts etc. Are your concerns similar? Then ensure you voice these in the above survey.

John Crawford Marine has been advised today that Ally Craft Boats has been acquired by Telwater. Telwater manufacture three iconic aluminium brands - Quintrex, Stacer and Savage boats and now they can add Ally Craft to their string of quality brands. JCM has been advised that in the current market conditions, Telwater has no plans to produce Ally Craft boats in the immediate future. Telwater has commended Murray and Iris Cox (the previous owners) on their long standing contribution to the boat manufacturing industry and the team at JCM also pass on their best wishes.

John Crawford Marine has been selling second hand Ally Craft Boats since they first came onto the market and have always found the boats in demand. Mainly due to high standards in manufacture, high top sides and a generous beam, making for a safe and comforatble boat for the family and  / or fishing. John Crawford Marine will continue to source quality used Ally Craft Boats in the future as the brand is trusted with build quality and high resale value.

Once the new boat market picks up, we do hope to see the name Ally Craft Boats back on the market!

Boats being stolen in the Redlands and Wynnum area PDF Print E-mail
Written by John Crawford Marine
Thursday, 24 June 2010 05:50

Within the last week John Crawford Marine has had reports of 4 different stolen vessels from the Wynnum/Manly and Redlands districts.  John Crawford Marine is encouraging owners to spread the word on boat security, particularly for boats kept in front yards where the residents are away for most of the day.

We encourage the use of theft deterrents like coupling securing devices and wheel braces. John Crawford Marine are agents for Club Marine Insurance if you don't have cover. If you are insured with another insurer, we would advise you to check your policy to ensure adequate cover is on your boat and check their fine print!
