Labor please provide the "science" behind the Green Zones in Moreton Bay PDF Print E-mail

If you are not aware Moreton Bay in South East Queensland is now a Marine Park. My name is Matthew Hodson, owner of John Crawford Marine - Qld's Used Boat Specialists and I believe that that this an excellent idea as it creates for the new boatie and bay user a respect for the out doors just like the mind set when we enter a National Park on land. For most boaties we are out enjoying the bay as we want to enjoy it for what it is, beautiful and a relatively safe place to explore.

However within this park, bureaucracy has implemented "zones". These zones allow certain activities to be undertaken and also certain activities that cannot be undertaken such as  fishing, speed restrictions etc. Again most of the implemented ideologies have merit and will help the bay overcome the issue of being over loved.

But, the Labor government has based some of the Green Zones which exclude fishing altogether based on scientific data. This data is not available to the electorate. I have received this email below which is asking for people and bay users that are a little disturbed as to "what is the science" behind the closures and why isn't it readily available. Trying not to be sceptical, but it seems a little weird that this information was available prior to election but now its not... What is going Miss Bligh?

Why were we not told prior to the state election Miss Bligh? PDF Print E-mail

As I went to my local fuel station on the way home from work this afternoon I had to line up 3 deep at the diesel pump to fill the John Crawford Marine Land Cruiser. Whilst I waited in the car for my turn, I couldn't help but think, why is a Tuesday afternoon so busy? Then it dawned on me, tomorrow the 1st July 2009, the state government has abolished the fuel tax subsidy. Thanks for that, I didn't vote for your government nor did I give my consent for this decision to be made, as most Queenslander's wouldn't had either. As a small business owner and born and bred Queenslander I have had enough of being told by the state bureaucrat's what and when and how I do things, where I can and can't go,  and taxes that I must pay.

However regardless of you who you voted for, I would like to know why was the Queensland voter not told by Labor at the time of the election of their intentions if they were re - elected. Now I confess to not being the smartest man alive, however I know how much time it takes and resources it takes to get important ideas and changes in motion - for example the Brisbane Boat Show committee starts organising the following years boat show as soon as the current show is over. Therefore to look at abolishing the fuel subsidy, selling Queensland's state owned businesses and tax payers infrastructure, I want to know the time frame it has taken Bligh to reach these decisions, because I will be put in my place if the slow bureaucratic departments and policy makers have been able to think up these ideas and have them come into effect since late April 2009.

So the question has been asked.... Bligh, when did you think up these ideas and why was the electorate not told of your intentions at the time of the election? Because if my company sells something and does not divulge all the issues, extra costs, etc, under your state law John Crawford Marine is fined heavily for acting in breach of consumers rights, so wouldn't this mean that if you didn't let the electorate know your intentions, you were then deliberately not telling the whole truth and there for lying to be reelected?

You cannot hide behind the, oh we never knew the GFC would be so bad... and gee whiz, didnt it happen quickly, you are woman in power, you run the state of Queensland!  I am a small business and I started looking at John Crawford Marine's expenses and spending etc and gearing the business for a major downturn and lack of sales back in August 2008, so if you were not aware of the storm that was looming on the financial horizon late last year, you certainly are not in position to run the state and you certainly are by no means a leader!

Labor QLD, you have alot to answer for and I am not happy with your decisions of late.... and by the way where did all the money go that your government collected as taxes over the past 5 years that was collected in extra revenue from the miners, boat builders, tradesman, etc.... during the boom? I know...... back into your bureaucratic departments and buildings....... way to go!

A very disgruntled Queensland resident and small business owner (fuel tax gone) and father (only one Childrens hospital soon) and boat owner (huge increases in registrations and Moreton Bay closures) and taxpayer (no break here either) and employer (pay roll tax...) and home owner (increase in electricity again, rates increases...) thanks Bligh.

Marine Pollution Concerns PDF Print E-mail
Written by Matthew Hodson

After all the rain of late, this is a photo taken a few kilometers north of the Tangalooma Wrecks on the inside of Moreton Bay in Queensland that I received.  Whilst one of our clients was traveling over to the wrecks the amount of plastic and rubbish in the bay and on the beach was disturbing. Although I am a little skeptical by nature, my thoughts suddenly started to wander about the Governments insistence that the boaties are causing  turtle and dugong deaths due to boat strike, but seeing this again after heavy rain I am starting to wonder……

The boating fraternity is out there to enjoy nature, not destroy it. So I ask the EPA and the bureaucrats of government, what measures have been undertaken to stop all this land based pollution from entering the waterways and what action are you taking to stop it? Rather than blame the recreational boaties?
State recreational marine industry body, Marine Queensland has now also spoken out over concerns regarding the increased levels of pollution being reported in our waterways

It is estimated that 100,000 marine mammals and turtles are killed annually from plastics litter around the globe.

John Crawford Marine releases 2 new ARVOR boats.
John Crawford Marine releases 2 new ARVOR boats.
John Crawford Marine proudly displayed for the first time in Queensland the all new ARVOR 215AS and the newly powered ARVOR 20 at the 2009 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show held on the weekend.

Although the weather was unkind and numbers down, the team enjoyed talking and showing potential owners the virtues of owning an ARVOR. The new 100 Hp diesel found in the ARVOR 20 will enable those owners wishing to carry heavier payloads a higher cruise speed when under load.  Also introduced in line with market expectations are LED navigation and anchor lights, cloth trim in the cabin, and friction arm on the roof top ventilation hatch.

The ARVOR 215AS was warmly welcomed into the ARVOR range as a boat to fill the void between the 20 and the 230AS. With an Asymmetrical cabin, offset to the port side, the walk way down the right side is almost 20 inches wide! With high topsides and strong bow rails the angler can access this area in absolute safety. The boat also features an electric windlass, self draining decks and the all new 115 Hp Cummins Quantum Series diesel, linked to a shaft drive through a hydraulic gearbox.

For more information on the ARVOR range go to our Arvor section or www.arvor.com.au
