After a tough six months on our waterways, the Queensland marine industry is celebrating its triumph over adversity with the launch of the 51st Brisbane Boat Show on August 25.
Minister for Main Roads, Fisheries and Marine Infrastructure, and recreational boatie, Hon Craig Wallace MP, will officially launch the show and said Queenslander’s should get behind their boaties to encourage them back onto the water. “Recreational boating is part of our Queensland identity and both boaties and the marine industry they support have weathered some tough climatic and economic conditions in the past six months,” Wallace said.
“As a recreational boatie myself, I’m looking forward to officially opening this premier event on the boating calendar, both as a gesture of support for our important marine boating industry and as an opportunity to provide valuable safety advice to our growing boating community.” The show will allow boaties to learn more about improved recreational boating safety initiatives, recently introduced by the Bligh Government.
Improvements include better night and electronic navigation skills for recreational boaties and advanced training for owners of larger vehicles. With appearances from the Waterskiing World Championship Team, boxing glamour girl, Lauryn Eagle, and seafood expert, Bart Beek, as well as nautical fashion and swimwear exhibits for the ladies, there is something to float every boat at this year’s show, which promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Marine Queensland’s events manager, Jason Plant, said the industry has shown it is made of tough stuff and people should be excited by the opportunity to get back on the water. “For many Queenslanders, owning a boat is a very affordable lifestyle option that brings families together,” Plant said.
“We’re inviting all those who have a passion for getting on the water to come along and experience this state’s best marine show.”
