The 2009 Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club Family Fishing Competition was staged over the long weekend of May 2nd to 4th. A record number of 251 families were fishing the local waters and were blessed with beautiful weather up to Sunday morning.

John Crawford Marine again, proudly donated the Junior, major prize of a 8 foot fiberglass boat. To the winner, we wish you many happy hours fishing!

Some spectacular catches were recorded, with my favorite a 9.7 Kg Snapper by local Snapper identity Troy Dixon and the other stand out was a 1.225 Kg Bream (almost the size of a Snapper!)

The juniors were not forgotten either, with a record 97 children participating in this year’s event with plenty of prizes and handouts on offer for them.  The MC even kept them and the adults entertained with the children dancing to the Macarena!

No incidences were recorded which is always a great thing at these events, except for a boat sliding off a trailer when going up the public ramp next door – I hope no major damage was done – it does happen to the best of us!

However one disappointing result was the lack of boaties utilizing the services of the Radio Room. Boaties and fellow members do not disregard this feature. It is there for your safety. I encourage you to utilise this service and take advantage of knowing that someone knows where you are and what you are in and how many of you are onboard. With the recent tragedy of two experienced industry colleagues off Moreton Island last month all the safety in the world is needed in an emergency!

All in all, another fantastic local event at a great club. From a sponsors view, I would like to thank the organizers that put so many long hours into the event and I take my hat off to you to say thank you.
