Advertised prices of Used Cars sold through dealerships will need to be ‘All Inclusive’ by law soon John Crawford Marine believes for consumers benefit the Marine Industry should also adopt the practice. As owner of John Crawford Marine, our company policy is to market and advertise our boats inclusive of all costs together with administration and delivery costs. This is fair practise for the consumer and I believe that our industry should follow suit and make all inclusive pricing mandatory and transparent. The following article was received from Dealer Solutions regarding the new laws. “In May 2009 the laws in relation to advertised pricing will change for the automotive industry. There have been stories that dealers will have to offer all vehicles ‘Drive Away’ but this is not the case, there is an important difference. All inclusive means that your advertised price is ‘all inclusive’ of the costs that your dealership charges (eg: delivery & admin). The definition of ‘Drive Away’ is however a different matter whereby, if a motor dealer chooses to advertise ‘drive away’ they must include charges from the dealer & 3rd parties (eg: Rego, stamp duty, REVS, etc). The new All Inclusive requirements mean that it will be illegal to simply disclose additional charges in quotes or advertisements (eg: “plus dealer delivery”) all quantifiable charges must be included in the advertised price. Additionally, If a dealer advertises a price for a car that is “plus dealer delivery & statutory charges”, it must also include the total price inclusive of these charges. This means showing two prices, one with and one without the charges, so the consumer knows the difference. Failing to include quantifiable charges in an advertised or quoted price could carry a penalty of up to $1.1 million per offence. Here’s what the ACCC say: "An all-inclusive price is the total amount that the consumer has to pay to the motor vehicle dealer to obtain the motor vehicle advertised. It includes all mandatory payments such as dealer delivery charges and administration fees. Additional charges the consumer can pay directly to a third party, such as registration fee, stamp duty and third party compulsory insurance need NOT be included in the price of the motor vehicle. If the motor vehicle dealer or seller makes a representation to the effect of ‘drive away, no more to pay', all additional charges should be included in the price.” John Crawford Marine is again leading the used boat market within the Marine Industry and will continue to demonstrate leadership and professionalism in what we do best “Always buying.
